Valuation

The price range of the Piper M350 falls between $850,000 and $1,585,000. Piper Aircraft produced the first Piper M350 in 2014 and the aircraft is still in production today. 168 M350 have been produced, 161 are in operation, and 1 has been retired. The remaining 6 are with the manufacturer.

Risk Areas

Less experienced pilots transitioning from smaller aircraft are risky to insure. The hardest aircraft to insure are pilots over 75 years old looking to start a relationship with a new insurance company.

Insurance companies consider qualified pilots to have at least a Private License and IFR Rating, with 500 total hours, 200 RG hours, and ground and flight training within 12 months of the flight.

The typical insurance rate starts at 1% of the hull value for experienced pilots and less than 3 named pilots on the policy. It rises to 1.5% of the hull value for pilots with less than 1,000 total time, dry leases, and over 3 named pilots on the policy.

The rate goes as high as 2% of the hull value for pilots over 75 years old and pilots transitioning from an aircraft like a Cirrus SR22 with less than 500 total time.

Claim History

The Piper M350 has a good claim history and is recognized as one of the safest single-engines. The M350 has been involved in fewer accidents than its predecessor, the Piper Malibu. Most accidents occurred during landing, and some of the common causes are fuel, engine, and runway loss of control and pilot errors.

The PA-46 family is expensive to operate and maintain. Insurance companies know they are unforgiving in the hands of pilots who don’t take training seriously. Thus, most companies won’t insure pilots who constantly request for extensions for training.

Safety Features

Piper M350 integrates industry-leading safety tools. The aircraft is fitted with Garmin G1000 NXi avionics that features innovative technology. It features Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) to help pilots navigate safely even when the view through the cockpit windscreen is dark, hazy, or solid IFR.

There’s a blue Automatic Level Mode button pilots can use to engage the GFC700 autopilot when experiencing spatial disorientation. The autopilot will return the aircraft to straight-and-level flight.

The Electronic Stability Protection (ESP) keeps you safe in stable flight when flying the M350. When pitch or roll deviations exceed the recommended limits or when over-speed or under-speed is about to occur, the ESP will stabilize flight. It will also automatically activate the GFC700 autopilot if it is engaged for too long.

The M350 also has interceptProtection (USP) that adjusts the controls to rectify under speed conditions that can cause an inadvertent stall. The aircraft will initiate an Emergency Descent Mode to lower altitudes if a pressurization irregularity arises, allowing the pilot to recover the aircraft.
