Risk Areas

One of the major risks for Avanti Evo insurance providers is parts scarcity. This is a major concern for insurers as the aircraft parts are usually delivered late. As a result, the cost for the aircraft to sit in maintenance can increase repair expenses.

As a result, some of the already few aviation underwriters have stopped giving quotes for Avanti aircraft.

Underwriters consider qualified Avanti P180 pilots to have at least a private license, MEL/IFR ratings, with 3,000 total hours, 1,500 Multi-Engine/Turbine, and 100 hours in the make/model.

The insurance rate starts at 1% of the hull value for experienced pilots and single ownership with no dry leases or mid-term policy changes. It increases to 2% of the hull value for less experienced pilots, a high number of named pilots like over 3 pilots, constantly requesting extensions for training, dry leases, fractional ownership, etc.

Claim History

The typical claim for Avanti is Foreign Engine Debris (FOD), hangar rash, hail, etc.

There have also been reports of windshields cracking in flight due to a gas leak between the outside and inside pane. This is often considered normal wear and tear and not an insurance claim. Replacing a side of a new Avanti windshield can cost over $50,000.

Owners of Avanti Evos also complained about the delay in getting aircraft parts and the lack of customer support from the company. This has led to frustration among operators.

Safety Features

The Piaggio P180 is equipped with the Rockwell Collins Avionics suite in the cockpit. WXR-840 solid-state weather radar and Universal UNS-1kFMS systems are standard equipment for enhanced situational awareness. A Rockwell Collins TWR-850 Doppler turbulence detection radar can also be fitted on request.

The Piaggio Avanti EVO is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6 engines which are one of the most reliable engines. The aircraft generally facilitate ice detection during day and night flights. The ice detector probe alerts the pilots of icing conditions, and a visual ice accretion probe acts as a backup to the ice detector.

The Piaggio Avanti EVO is suited with Rockwell’s Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite. It features a Primary Flight Display (PFD) with a map display and a Flight Management System (FMS) Message window.

The Traffic Collision and Avoidance System (TCAS), Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS), and Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) are also instrumental in in-flight safety.
