Aircraft Summary

The Citation II’s successor, the Bravo, has been upgraded with more powerful and fuel-efficient PW530A engines. This improvement results in an increased maximum gross takeoff weight (MGTOW), a quicker cruise speed and a longer flight range. The avionics suite of the aircraft has also been enhanced with a Honeywell Primus 1000 flight guidance system and AlliedSignal CNI-5000 Silver Crown radios that are mounted on the panel. If Service Bulletin SB-550-34-70 is followed to the letter, this plane can be certified for Reduced Vertical Separation Minimums (RVSM).

Valuation

Citation Bravo’s price or market value ranges between $1,758,000 and $3,050,000. The price range depends on the year, engine TBO, avionics, interior, paint, and a clean accident or incident history along with maintenance logs.

Cessna delivered the Citation Bravo from 1997 – 2006. There were a total of 336 built. As of 2023, there are 308 still in operation.

Risk Areas

Owner pilots with low experience such as new to the Citation or transitioning from a smaller piston aircraft such as a Baron G58 into a Citation Bravo. Most insurance companies will require simulator training for the first type rating followed by dual mentor time for new Citation pilots with less than 1,500 total hours.

Claim History

The Citation Bravo has a good claims history and it has a reputation for being reliable provided the aircraft is in a well maintained maintenance program. Pilot related claims are often as a result of unstabilized approaches leading to hard landings and runway incursions. Other common claims are weather or fire related physical damage, engine FOD, bird strike, and FBO hangar rash.

Safety Features

The Citation Bravo has twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW530A engines that are extremely reliable. For insurance pilots are required to complete training annually. Half of the insurance companies will require use of a full motion based simulator at FlightSafety, Simcom, or Simuflite and the other half of the insurance companies will require Aviation Manager Approved Training in make and model annually.

Insurance rates are between 0.6% for dual pilots and 2% for less experienced owner pilots.
