Aircraft Summary

The Sovereign stands out from other midsize private jets with its impressive range—it can travel coast to coast just like a large jet. It also has a remarkable take-off capability of under 4,000 feet, an unmatched feat for its size. The jet cruises at .75 Mach (458 knots). Its cabin is 25.3 feet long and can accommodate eight to nine passengers with swivel seats that turn 180 degrees. Inside the cabin, passengers will enjoy the 5.7 foot high ceiling. On top of that, the Sovereign offers more baggage space than any comparable private jet—with 135 cubic feet of total storage (100 cu ft external; 35 internal). This aircraft is equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306C turbofan engines that generate 5,600 lbs of thrust each on takeoff and have been flat-rated to minimize noise. Additionally, there are two fuel pump systems—a standard engine-driven system and a DC-powered system for backup and startup procedures. Finally, Cessna installed an APU to cool the cabin and cockpit before starting up the engines.

The Cessna Citation Sovereign+ is an impressive low-wing aircraft, boasting retractable tricycle landing gear and a distinctive cruciform tail. Its pressurized cabin can easily seat two pilots and up to twelve passengers (nine as standard). The Model 680 has been rigorously certified to the U.S. 14 CFR Part 25 Transport Category, capable of day, night, VFR, IFR and even flight into known icing conditions. Furthermore, it meets all RVSM certification requirements. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PW306D FADEC-controlled turbofan engines mounted on the rear fuselage, this remarkable aircraft is ready for take off!

Risk Areas

Flight operations that don’t send both pilots to annual simulator based training in make and model. Simulator training providers for the Sovereign are FlightSafety, CAE Simuflite, and Simcom. Most insurance companies are going to require 12 month simulator training but some flight departments request more lenient pilot warranties that the FAA requires such as 24 month recurrent training for SIC pilots. Or in-aircraft training for SIC pilots as per FAA 61.56. Or 24 currently in the Sovereign provided they have completed training in another turbojet within the last 12 months.

Safety Features

The Citation Sovereign is a dual pilot aircraft so that’s the biggest safety feature considering most accidents or incidents are as a result of pilot error.
