Aircraft Summary

The Phenom 100 & 300 are super cool because they are single pilot jets. A lot of corporate jet owners love the ease and logistics of having a single pilot jet aircraft. Since the pandemic there has been a pilot shortage and single pilot operators create a unique advantage to cut costs and improve flexibility. The Phenoms are new and in high demand along with pretty much all of the new delivery Embraers like the Praetor 600 and Praetor 500.

Liability premium is based on the number of seats and Use of aircraft. It typically accounts for 15% – 30% of the overall premium. The remaining 70% – 85% is from the hull value premium.

An easy way to estimate or visualize the premium for a Phenom Aircraft is: 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%.

  • 0.5% of the hull value for experienced pilots and a smooth operation
  • 1% of the hull value for pilots over 70 years old and operations with a lot of dry leases or fractional ownership
  • 1.5% of the hull value for new transitioning pilots from an aircraft like a Diamond DA62

Thereā€™s a membership group created by a Phenom owner called Phenom Pilots AssociationĀ

Valuation

The nice thing about Phenom is there are service centers, training centers, owner associations and type rated pilots all over the country and world. Thereā€™s only a few manufacturers that are able to compete over multiple corporate jets. Citation is obvious and Pilatus and Honda Jet have entered the market. But pilots are really key in a pilot shortage so Phenom has become a mahogany table talking item.

Risk Areas

Claim History

The Phenoms have a moderate to good claims history. The thing is, underwriters are so familiar with the Phenom 100 and 300 and the flight training centers, and the service centers. Phenoms are rated similar to the Citations because of the great support and service that Embraer offers. Since the Phenom and all Embraers are twin turbine engines, it requires that the pilot has a type rating. Insurance companies will require annual training as per the Pilot Warranty. Having a type rating and annual training significantly decreases the chances of a catastrophic loss.

Safety Features

The new Phenom aircraft have the Garmin G3000 avionics systems which incorporates a lot of touch screen features and improved synthetic vision to enhance situational awareness. Jet Suite was a Phenom Charter company and they used to 100s of Phenoms. One of the common claims and accidents they reported was over shooting the runway on landing. The Embraers have a fly by wire and brake by wire controls. The brake by wire can be difficult to operator for new typed pilots.
